Booliyage, Bowliage, Balayage ;)

So, what’s a…. balayage? Balayage is “a technique for highlighting the hair in which the dye/lightener is painted on in such a way as to create a graduated, natural-looking effect”. Whew! That’s a mouthful. To put it simply, its the art of hand-painting the hair. A good stylist will be able to combine many different techniques to give the hair and all over seamless look. Some times stylists will use backcombing, foils, balayage wrap, cotton, weaving, baby lights, and shadow rooting to achieve the look you desire. While no one way is the “correct” way, stylists will often choose their favorite way to balayage and really hone in on their craft. I personally love using balayage wrap, toning, and shadow rooting when creating on my clients.

Balayage is also super fun because each one is different! You can completely customize it to fit your clients needs. Some want more, some want less. Some want it brought high, some want it focused on the ends. Some want face-framing pieces, some want a longer root around their face. It all depends on preference! And your stylist should 100% be able to capture your desires with their knowledge of the balayage technique.
